How to Properly Clean Your Car Windshield?

Cleaning your windshield should always be part of your routine. Dust or dirt easily cover your vehicle glass which can be harmful for you and other people with whom you’re driving. Of course, it’s not enough that you are using the best windshield cleaner. You need to know how to clean the windshield using the cleaner as well. If you don’t know how to do it yet, here are the ways on how to clean your windshield using the best windshield cleaner.

How to Clean the Outside of Your Windshield?

Step 1: Lift the wipers up.
Before you start putting or spraying a windshield cleaner, lift up the wipers to make sure that all the area will be cleaned.
Step 2: Use your windshield cleaner for half of your windshield.
Start applying your windshield cleaner on one half of your glass. Apply enough amount of cleaner. The amount should depend on the size of your windshield.
Step 3: Vertically wipe your windshield.
Put your rag from the top and slide it down. Then, make another vertical trace for the further side. Pull your rag from the top then slide it down. Do not alternate your moves (top to bottom then bottom to top) for that won’t get the dirt and dust successfully. Do the vertical wipes for the part that you are working on. Fold your rag to get the cleaner side of it to avoid the dust from coming back on the glass.
Step 4: Horizontally wipe your windshield.
After the vertical wipes, you should the make another set of horizontal wipes. Still, start from the top of your car windshield. Extend your arm with your rag to the center of the glass then wipe to the edge of the windshield. Just like the vertical wipes, make another horizontal lines until you reach the bottom of your car windshield.
Step 5: Repeat the process for the other half of your glass.
If you are done with the one side, start applying steps 2 to 4 to the uncleaned part of your windshield. Do the vertical sets of wipes first, then the horizontal ones.
Step 6: Wipe your windshield in circular motion.
The previous sets of wipes are needed to wipe off the dirt or dust and the car windshield cleaner that you use on your windshield. So, get another clean tower to be used for this final step. Move hand in circular motion. Do it on all areas of your windshield.
Now, you may have your freshly-cleaned outer windshield. You may now enjoy a very clear view of the road.

How to Clean the Inside of Your Windshield?

Of course, the inside of your windshield is as important as the outside one. There is no reason for you to skip cleaning this. Here are the steps on how to clean it with your inside windshield cleaner
Step 1: Protect your dashboard with a towel first.
To avoid some sticky drips coming from your inside windshield cleaner, cover your dashboard with a towel first. Make sure that you leave no important part exposed. You don’t want to risk damaging any electronics.
Step 2:  Start putting or applying the windshield cleaner.
Using a microfiber rag, start spraying or putting some inside windshield cleaner on one half of your windshield. Then, you may start wiping.
Step 3: Vertically wipe your windshield.
Make vertical wipes on the inner side of your windshield glass. To do so, just slide the rag from top to bottom. Do this several times until all dirty spots are gone. Don’t attempt to turn into another direction. You can’t shift to wiping from bottom to top as this will create unnecessary streaks.
Step 4: Horizontally wipe your windshield.
After making vertical wipes, try going horizontal this time. Slide the rag from the top corner towards the right or left side, depending on which side of the windshield you’re cleaning. Do this until the glass is spotless.
Step 5: Work on the other part of the car windshield.
Spray or put some windshield cleaner on the other half of the interior glass. Apply step 3  and 4 again.
Step 6: Do the final buffing.
Buff your windshield with a clean microfiber rag. Check if the glass is already spotless. If not, you may have to apply a windshield cleaner again.

What to Consider When Buying a Floor Jack?

Buying a floor jack can be a tasking process for those people who do not have the information that makes the process easier. There are different types of floor jacks and a wide range of manufacturers such that you are spoilt for choice. It can get hard to pick from one of these manufacturers and even harder to narrow down your options to just one jack. However, if you consider the following factors, your job will become much simpler and you will have an easier time getting a high quality jack.

Personal Recommendations and Reviews

If you have a family member or friend who owns the same car or one that is similar to yours, you can ask about the type of jack they use and the manufacturer and model if it has provided services over a long period of time. You can even borrow the jack to try out on your car so that you can form your own opinion. If the jack suits your needs, you can then proceed to buy your own. If you are not privy to this luxury, you can read through online reviews to find the jack that will be best used on your vehicle. To do this, you will definitely need to read through reviews from people who own a car similar to yours. Here, you can be able to narrow down manufacturers, get an average price to consider as well as pick out some models that you might have an inclination towards.

How Does the Jack Suit Your Car?

This will also matter a lot when you are picking a jack. You need to consider the weight of your car and then match it to the jack weight rating to ensure that you do not get a jack that cannot support the full weight of your vehicle. This can be dangerous because if the jack gives way the vehicle will collapse leading to car damage or even bodily harm. You also need to consider the distance between the bottom of the car and the ground. Not all jacks can compress low enough to fit in between that space and lift the vehicle. You do not want to spend your money on a floor jack that will not be able to jack up your car.

Purpose of the Jack

Finally, consider what you will be using the jack for. The more the uses, the more you will need to get a high quality jack that can be used for various needs. A hydraulic jack would be best suited for this. If you just want a simple jack that will assist you on the side of the road in case you get a flat tire, then it is best to buy a good scissor jack which is light enough to fit in the back of your trunk without making the car heavier. Each of these unique uses should inform your decision about the jack that you are going to buy.

How to Safely Use a Floor Jack?

If you plan on using a floor jack to raise your car, you will need to get acquainted with the precautionary measures that keep you safe as you use the jack. It is not enough to lift a car. You also have to prevent damage to the car and injury to yourself or any other person who might be in the vicinity. Once you decide to repair or maintain your car, you do not want to end up with extra charges to rectify any additional damage or bodily injuries to tend to. In order to avoid this, you need to:

Assess the Ground

Before you start working on your car, you need to assess the ground that you are working on. Is it stable? Does the material underneath support the vehicle properly or is it shaky and prone to sink if a lot of pressure is applied on it? Is it even and flat? You have to ask yourself all these questions before jacking up your car. Flat surfaces provide support for the floor jack which in turn supports your car when it is lifted. Any other ground: slanted or unstable could cause the jack to tip over and fall. This can damage the car extensively or lead to injuries which will need medical attention.

Stop the Car

It is not enough to stop the car on a flat surface. You will also need to ensure that it does not move once you lift it up. To do this, you will need to engage the parking brake. This will stop the back wheels from moving. To ensure that neither the back nor the front wheels move, depending on which side you are going to lift, place wheel chocks underneath each of the wheels that will remain on the ground. This extra support will come in handy regardless of which side of the car you are lifting. If you do not have proper wheel chocks you can replace them with heavy stone or blocks of wood instead. These measures prevent the car from rolling away mid air as the pressure and weight shifts to one side of the vehicle.

Support the Car

Finally, always support the car before you get underneath it. One of the worst things that can happen is for the car to collapse as you are underneath it. This could lead to serious injuries or even death. The surest way to ensure that this does not happen is to buy high quality jack stands. A floor jack is not made to support the weight of the vehicle for long periods of time. This is the work of jack stands. You will therefore need to get some stands whose weight rating is beyond that of your vehicle. Place the stands at appropriate points to provide maximum support to the vehicle. Test if the car is stable before working on it. If it is, you can go ahead and position yourself underneath and do your repairs or maintenance.

Different Types of Floor Jacks

There is a variety of floor jacks that you can choose from. All you need to know is what you plan on using these floor jacks for and other vehicle specifications such as distance from the ground and the weight of your vehicle. All this information is important not only because it determines whether the jack will work for your vehicle but also because details such as weight help to ensure your safety. You do not want to buy a jack that supports less weight than your vehicle because it could collapse and lead to injury or car damage. You have these popular types of jacks to pick from:

Scissor Jacks

Scissor jacks are mechanical jacks. They use the physical components to raise your vehicle. In this case, each scissor jack has a screw that compresses the mechanism. This creates pressure and causes the car to rise. The scissor jack is unable to lift to very high heights. This limitation makes it suitable for smaller tasks such as flat tire changes. This makes it suitable for minor roadside emergencies. This jack also has a relatively small footprint, especially in comparison to the hydraulic jack. This makes it safer to use by the roadside as well. Thirdly, the jack is also relatively light in weight, allowing you to comfortably carry it in your trunk without making the car heavier. Most cars come with the jack upon purchase.

Hydraulic Jacks

Hydraulic jacks are best suited for home use and are commonly found in repair shops. They come in handy when you have to raise the car really high so you can work on the components underneath the car. These jacks have the highest lifting capacity in terms of height and can also support a lot of weight. In addition to this, the hydraulic jack is set on four wheels which provide extra support and stability whenever you are using it. They can compress to really low heights and can be used on smaller vehicles as well as larger vehicles such as trucks. These jacks use a hydraulic mechanism which is extremely simple and does not require extensive physical exertion.

Bottle Jacks

The bottle jack looks like a bottle. It uses concentric cylinders and hydraulic mechanism to raise vehicles. It can lift heavy vehicles such as trucks and is not suitable for sports cars because they are low. Bottle jacks cannot compress to low heights and thus cannot fit beneath lower vehicles. However, people like using them on uneven, slanted or tilted ground because they cover the smallest footprint and can therefore be easily balanced.

How to Pick the Best Type of Floor Jack

This will depend entirely on what you plan to use the jack for. The specifications of your car such as height and weight matter a lot but they can be overshadowed by your intended use for the jack. You might, for example, want a jack that covers larger vehicles even though you have a sedan. This will propel you towards a jack that can handle larger as well as smaller vehicles.
